British Virgin Islands (BVI's)

The British Virgin Islands (BVI’s) is one of the most popular sailing destinations within the Caribbean.  The BVI’s offer safe, secluded anchorages, interesting culture, plenty of waterside restaurants and excellent weather conditions.    There are about 50 separate islands in the BVI’s which provide a protected and peaceful cruising area.

Tortola is the largest island in the British Virgin Islands and has the largest population.  It is also the most developed with the most shops, restaurants, hotels and yacht charter operators.  It has its own jet airport and a large ferry port making it easily accessible.  Charterers will generally arrive into Tortola by ferry from St Thomas (US Virgin Islands) or alternatively by plane into Beef Island which is connected to Tortola by a bridge.  Tortola offers stunning natural beauty and white sandy beaches – it also offers excellent marina facilities making it a popular starting point for fully crewed luxury charters, whilst also offering a wide array of bareboat yachts to choose from.  Tortola also has the largest fleet of luxury fully crewed Catamarans to choose from which is an ideal choice for groups looking for an all inclusive Caribbean experience at a reasonable price.  Mariner Boating Holidays can present you with an array of crewed catamarans suitable for your group which will make your Caribbean yacht charter holiday an unforgettable experience.

Other islands within the BVI’s include Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, Norman, Peter Island and Anegada.  Popular activities include kayaking, scuba diving and swimming at the Baths at Virgin Gorda.

The main yacht charter season for the BVI’s runs from November through to April.  The BVI’s is the perfect cruising area for the inexperienced yachtsman or for one’s first visit to the Caribbean, as it offers short island hops with line of sight sailing in protected waters.
