United States Virgin Islands (USVI's)

The United States Virgin Islands are located in the Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles and consist of the main islands of St John, St Thomas, Saint Croix and Water Island. They are located in the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean approximately 90 miles east of Puerto Rico. The local population encompasses all from the peaceful Arawak and fierce Carib Indians, to the people of Africa, England, Holland, Denmark, Spain, France, India and the United States.

The Virgins Islands are famous for year round cruising. The temperature ranges from 80's in winter to 90's in summer. In the winter, there's a slight wind shift to the north with wind speeds of 15 - 20 knots. In the summer, the winds shifts to east-southeast and blow around 10 - 15 knots. There is no real rainy season. Showers tend to be in short bursts with blue skies to follow. Yacht charters should be avoided through September and October, as the risk of a hurricane, could easily ruin your yacht charter vacation. In the US Virgin Islands, you'll find the pristine beaches, sparkling waters and national parks distinctive of the Caribbean. Charlotte Amalie on St Thomas is one of the most famous ports in the entire Caribbean. Red Hook Bay also on St Thomas is another popular charter base which makes for a good start to your sailing holiday.

St John is quite possibly the most beautiful of all the US Virgin Islands as it comprises of two-thirds national park. Anchor in Hurricane Hole and be surrounded by national park and very few other people. Also discover on St John many many white sandy beaches and a variety of beautiful wildlife.

St Croix is once again a completely different experience to the other US Virgin Islands. Christiansted is one of the main towns on St Croix and offers a distinct taste of Danish culture. You are also able to visit Buck Island from St Croix – one of the Caribbean’s top diving spots.
