Skandiva Yacht Rally 2014

25 July to 9 August - 16 Days

From $4775pp

  • Ancient history, distinctly Norther European culture and a storied maritime tradition are just a few of the things you'll discover in the Baltic Sea.

The Stockholm Archipelago and autonomous Aland, between Sweden and Finland, offer visitors a labyrinth of islands, channels and small ports, with the inhabited few offering real connection with the sea-going Swedes. This is their summer playground.

Starting and finishing in wonderful Stockholm, the 2014 Skandiva Yacht Rally will offer a whole new range of experiences, delivered with the customary Mariner Boating style.

Sailors, non-sailors, singles, couples or complete crews. No sailing experience necessary.
  • For 2014

    Day 1:

Arrive in Stockholm and spend the day at leisure. Wander through the old town known as Gamla Stan and take in the medieval alleyways, and archaic architecture. This evening enjoy welcome drinks with the group.

    Day 2:

Transfer to the base at Gashaga. After breakfast enjoy some free time in Stockholm. You may like to visit Djurgården where you will discover Sweden’s homage to ABBA at the brand new museum. If you prefer nautical history over music, then you may like to see the Vasa Museum, featuring the only preserved 17th century ship in the world where 95% of what you see today is original. Transfer in the afternoon to the yachts at Gashaga Marina near Stockholm.

    Day 3:

Cruise to Grinda 18nm. In true contrast to the bustling city of Stockholm, Grinda is a haven for peace and quiet. Relax and settle in to life on board. You may like to rent a kayak and admire the nature reserve from all angles.

    Day 4:

Race 1 to Möja 13nm. Race in the afternoon to the island of Möja, one of the largest islands in the archipelago with 300 inhabitants year round. Post-race dinner ashore

    Day 5:

Leisure day in Möja. Moja was made to be explored by bike, with many tracks around the island. You may like to head north to the Björndalen nature reserve, characterised by pine and mixed woodland and rich in wildlife.

    Day 6:

Cruise to Furusund in the north of the archipelago 23nm. Enjoy a walk around this scenic island and take in the surroundings that have inspired some of Sweden’s most renowned painters, writers and artists.

    Day 7:

Race 2 to Arholma 15nm. Race in the afternoon to Arholma, a very popular tourist stop which lies in the northern Stockholm Archipelago. Upon approach keep your eyes pealed for the large canon located on the coastline. This is part of Arholma Battery, a former secret defence facility. Post-race dinner ashore.

    Day 8:

Race 3 to Mariehamn, Åland 28nm. Today we will cross to the autonomous island group between Sweden and Finland. Having eluded the European customs union, Åland is duty free and therefore very popular with visitors from Finland and Sweden. Post-race dinner ashore.

    Day 9:

Leisure Day. Åland has the most sunshine of all the Nordic countries from May through August. Spend the day shopping in Mariehamn or set off to explore the 6,500 islands Åland has to offer.

    Day 10:

Cruise to Svenska Högarna 40nm. Depart early for the journey back to the Stockholm Archipelago. Enjoy an anchorage in the wilderness tonight as we stop at the virtually uninhabited Svenska Högarna.

    Day 11:

Race 4 to Sandhamn 22nm. One of the most well-known ports in the archipelago, Sandhamn is home to the Royal Swedish Yacht Club and is the centre for boating life on the east coast. Post-race dinner ashore.

    Day 12:

Leisure day. Immerse yourself in the buzz of Sandhamn or venture to the opposite side of the island to the harbour where there is a fantastic beach.

    Day 13:

Race 5 to Dalarö 20nm. One of the oldest and most important communities in the southern archipelago. Dalarö played a critical role in the defence of Stockholm during the 19th Century. Post-race dinner ashore.

    Day 14:

Leisure Day Saltsjöbaden 13nm. Cruise to Saltsjöbaden, literally meaning salt sea bath.

    Day 15:

Cruise to Gashaga Mairna. Cruise to Gashaga Marina for the final night on-board. Dinner and the final presentation will be held in Gashaga this evening.

    Day 16:

Disembark. Continue your travels or extend your stay in Stockholm.
